We are delighted to once again support Recycle Week 2021. Recycle Week is now in its 18th Year and is the largest UK annual recycling campaign organised by the Waste and Resources Action Programme (WRAP).

This Year's theme is 'Step It Up this Recycle Week.' LondonEnergy operates the second-largest waste contract in the UK, handling and treating nearly 750,000 tonnes of London's waste and recyclables every year. Our services generate enough electricity to power more than 80,000 homes every year, in an efficient, safe, and environmentally friendly. Our transfer stations and reuse and recycling centres help us process a large range of materials such as metals, glass, cardboard and wood for recycling every day.

Our mission is to reduce the volume of materials sent to landfills and help the community reduce their environmental impact and disposal costs. We launched a mattress recycling trail to extract around 700 mattresses a week from the waste stream as part of our sustainable commitment. In just 10 weeks a total of 13,600 old mattresses have been recycled, that approximately 400 tonnes of waste diverted from landfill.  Mattresses can be made of up to 17 different component materials. So, investing in this trial and recycle around 90% of the mattress materials Is a great achievement for us. Read more about mattress recycling here.
