Carla works at our Reuse shop and gets the chance to create inspiring displays to show customers the benefits of buying or upcycling second-hand furniture.

Why do you think it is important to support International Women’s Day?

It’s important to support International Women’s Day because it’s a brilliant opportunity to raise women’s voices and show solidarity with issues facing women on a local, national and global scale. 

Why should more women and girls choose careers in the waste and energy industry?

More women and girls should choose careers in the waste and energy industry because it’s a growth industry. Employers are keen to attract a more diverse workforce with more female employees and we bring new and different ideas to the table. 

What is your favourite part of your job? 

My favourite part of my job is connecting with customers and inspiring them with ideas to rethink their waste by repurposing, upcycling, swapping with friends and family or donating so others can benefit from their unwanted items.

What women inspire you and why? 

It’s been hugely inspiring to see world leaders like Jacinda Ardern showing creative, thoughtful decisive leadership and achieving some of the best outcomes whilst being inclusive and empathetic. She is leading the way in showing that authenticity, empathy and kindness are strengths not weaknesses. We can all learn a lot from her
